You're talking methanol and dimethyl ether as a high-cetane clean burning substitute for diesel - exactly what needs to happen in the Bitterroot (and nationwide). I can't tell you how excited I am to see this possibility taking shape! My home address is in Victor, but I have been on an extended visit to western MA and will return in the spring. I have 2 books that you undoubtedly know of - Energy Victory by Robert Zubrin, and Beyond Oil and Gas: The Methanol Economy by George Olah et al...necessary books I believe to know what's going on.
